What Hair Restoration Is

A topical that targets both causes of hair loss.

Our compounded hair restoration topical combines minoxidil (a vasodilator that supports scalp blood flow and follicle activity) with finasteride (a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor that reduces DHT, the hormone responsible for androgenetic alopecia). Applied once daily to the scalp, it addresses both vascular and hormonal contributors to hair loss in a single formulation.

How It's Taken
Daily topical

1 mL applied once daily to the scalp, typically in the evening. Comes with a measured pump dispenser for accurate dosing.

Bottle Size
30 mL per month

One bottle lasts approximately 30 days at standard dosing. Higher-strength formulations are available if needed.

Time to Effect
12 to 16 weeks

Most patients begin to notice reduced shedding within 8 to 12 weeks, with visible regrowth at 16 to 24 weeks of consistent daily use.

Who Hair Restoration Helps

For patients in the first half of hair loss.

This protocol works best when started early. Our NP will assess your hair pattern and set realistic expectations on your consult.

Likely a good fit if you
Probably not the right fit if you
Good To Know
The fine print, in plain English.

Our hair restoration topical is compounded by a California-licensed 503A pharmacy specifically for you based on your clinical visit. Both minoxidil and finasteride are well-studied individually and as a topical combination. Compounded medications are not separately approved by the FDA as finished pharmaceutical products. They are legal under federal and California law when prescribed for a specific patient based on a clinical evaluation.

Topical finasteride has a much lower systemic absorption profile than oral finasteride, which reduces but does not eliminate the risk of sexual or mood side effects associated with the oral form. Mild scalp irritation is the most common side effect. Our NP will walk through the considerations on your consult and adjust the protocol if any issues come up.

Common Questions

The honest answers to what most patients ask.

Why a topical instead of oral finasteride?

Topical finasteride delivers the medication directly to the scalp where it’s needed while keeping systemic absorption low. This reduces but does not eliminate the risk of sexual or mood side effects associated with oral finasteride. Most patients tolerate the topical formulation very well.

Drugstore minoxidil is minoxidil alone. Our compounded formulation adds prescription-strength finasteride to address the hormonal component of androgenetic alopecia, which minoxidil alone doesn’t touch. The combination produces better outcomes in most patients than either ingredient alone.

Yes. The initial 30 to 45 minute video consult with our NP is free. You only pay if you decide to start the program. There’s no obligation and no pressure if it turns out this service isn’t right for you.

No. Pause and Power Health is a telehealth program licensed in California. Patients can be located anywhere in the state, from San Diego to the Bay Area. Your video visit happens wherever you have a private space and an internet connection, and your medication ships to your home.

After your consult, our NP sends the prescription to a California-licensed pharmacy. The pharmacy ships your monthly supply directly to your home with everything you need. A flat $25 monthly shipping fee covers delivery.

Pause and Power Health is a cash-pay practice. We don’t bill insurance directly. On request, we can provide an itemized superbill that you may submit for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Most patients use HSA or FSA funds toward consultations and medications.
